ARTIST STATEMENT
My images are a playful, surreal, and sometimes violent purging of imagery which results from a process that is both Zen-like and violent at the same time. When I was younger, I use to fill journals with small poems that came out very organically. As a result, these poems either existed correctly or failed, but there was little tweaking of the final product. I feel as if my visual artwork goes through the same process: a main idea comes out, it evolves during its creation, and in the end it either takes life or does not. I’m inspired by street art, comics, folk art, Japanese silk screens, cartoons, stories, and a plethora of other imagery both ancient and new. In the end, I enjoy creating this world-awkwardly whimsical and whimsically awkward- that charms not only me but the viewer. |
