Jon Measures is an artist designer originally from England who has made Los Angeles his home. Jon has a Bachelors degree from Falmouth School of art in England. He currently teaches part-time at Cal State Long Beach, Mission College and Pierce Collage as well as working as freelance graphic designer. There are severally themes that reoccur in his work; personal identity and how that is defined in the age of the internet and consumer culture. The city of Los Angeles, in particular the East-side is another rich source of inspiration. The structure of city streets, maps and organic structures such as spider webs are often used as decorative elements and texture but symbolize interconnectedness and relate back to the the web and social networking. Jon is process based artist, ideas for pieces develop in a haphazard manner as a reaction to materials. Both digital and analog collage is the medium that Jon exploits the most. The process of cutting and rearranging images triggers ideas. Very often one image can trigger a new direction painting over or sticking new elements over the top of what has already been put down builds up history in the piece. Jon has shown in various galleries over the past few years.
